Entebbe gets new sh60b water project

President Yoweri Museveni on Friday commissioned a sh60b water project for Entebbe Municipality. The water supply and sewerage expansion project was funded by Germany and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation. It replaces one that was built in 1956.
Addressing a rally at the Entebbe Mayor’s Gardens, Museveni commended Germany for the aid and said the project would ensure that more Ugandans get access to clean and safe water.
He said for the past two years, the Government focused on power generation and road construction. “You will see a difference in those sectors,” Museveni said. He allayed fear by the water and environment minister, Maria Mutagamba, that funding for the sector had reduced.
Museveni said since donor funding was unpredictable, the Government had resorted to using local revenue. Museveni urged residents to engage in intensive agriculture, which he said needed small pieces of land, but gave high yields.
“There is peace and the Government has worked on factors of production. You should ensure that you engage in income-generating projects,” Museveni advised.
Michael Krake, the head of the development cooperation at the Germany embassy, said it was gratifying to learn that safe water coverage in Uganda had improved from 49% in 1998 to 63% in 2008.
